So many oranges!

It has been over 10 months since the launch of ORA, and the project has exceeded all expectations. The idea has generated more than 444 million new transactions on the Algorand mainnet (and counting), contributing over 530,000 USD worth of ALGO to the fee sink — funds that will help incentivize node runners to secure the network. The success is evident in our community growth: more than 500 unique miners have received ORA directly from the contract, with thousands more acquiring tokens through decentralized exchanges.

However, these 10 months represent just the beginning of ORA’s journey. The token’s supply distribution is designed to span over 15 years, made possible through periodic halvings — the first of which occurs today.

To commemorate this special occasion, I’m excited to introduce the Orange Place: a 270x270 pixel canvas built entirely on-chain.

Here’s how it works:

  • Any ORA holder can modify pixels to contribute to community artwork
  • Each pixel modification increases the price of subsequent changes by 1 john (one microunit of ORA)
  • This increasing cost mechanism ensures the final artwork will naturally stabilize, creating a truly collaborative piece
  • Pixel costs get burned, permanently reducing ORA supply

If you’re technical, you can look into the contract code (which was built with algokit & TealScript) here.

The Orange Place

Ready to leave your mark? Here’s how to participate:

  1. Get some ORA tokens on vestige.fi
  2. Visit the Orange Place
  3. Join the DAORA Discord server to discuss strategies and artistic ideas with fellow community members

Don’t wait too long — early participants will benefit from lower modification costs.

Let’s create something remarkable together!
